My first Flash Back Friday post! Hoping to keep up the courage and initiative to keep this going until I've posted all my past sessions. I'm re-editing Lorri and Tim's photos, because after they moved, they lost their wedding CD! My old computer crashed with all their edits, but luckily the actual photos were stored on my hard drive. I got to thinking, there's a lot of these photos that I'm absolutely IN LOVE with, that I don't remember ever posting! I also did that with a lot of other family and engagement sessions too. So, no more! I love all my sessions tooooooo much not to shout it from the roof tops that I did this. So here are Lorri and Tim!
We met through a mutual friend from James Madison University. I believe I took these photos about four years ago! So it would have been around the same time that I had just decided I definitely wanted to run with weddings. Lorri and Tim were awesome in giving me the chance, a almost compete and total noob, to photograph their wedding and gain experience. But before we got there, the engagement session!
We met in Downtown Harrisonburg, which was a favorite of both Lorri and Tim. As JMU alumni, they spent a lot of time in downtown as well. Lorri and Tim were fantastic. The lighting, was fantastic. While we walked around to different locations, I was able to talk to Lorri and Tim and get more info about how they met, their day, and them. Although we had to stop abruptly at the end because it started to rain, Lorri let me put her ring in a small puddle for a ring shot, which is still, to this day, one of my favorites.
Since it was raining, we sprinted up the road to one of their favorite restaurants, were they also met when they first started dating. I believe, if I remember correctly, this was also the date night hangout spot too! This restaurant was where it began, and so, we had to get some photos!
Lorri and Tim were married at Long Branch Plantation in Boyce, Virginia. This was a historic house built in the 1800s. And it was gorgeous inside. The grounds and gardens were also absolutely stunning and with over 400 acres (I promise I didn't make them walk that much) we didn't run out of spots for photos.
I met the guys in the 'Hunting Room' and photographed them getting ready, before we headed outside for group photos. This is by far the craziest wedding party and friends I've ever photographed. There was never a lull in what would we take next, because they always had an idea. The bride was running a little late, which just meant more time for more photos....I promise we took some serious ones too.
Once Lorri got there, I moved inside to photograph her getting ready with her bridal party, and get some group shots with her and her girls.
They had a tea party room! The bride wanted to have a tea party with her girls after everyone was ready. It was perfect!
I totally teared up during this part. This is Lorri's father who passed away.
I learned so much from the opportunity to photograph Lorri and Tim's wedding. As such a newbie, it was a little overwhelming, but even now, looking back on their photos, it's a nice refresher of all the things that I need to keep going through my head on a wedding day. Things that sometimes get looked over or not seen as important, is my job to make sure get captured and relived. Hopefully throughout this series, I'll teach myself a little more things, that I maybe didn't catch the first time. I'm always looking for ways to grow. It's also nice to take a trip down memory lane and remember the couples that not only gave me a chance, but made Dani Strickler Photography what it is today!
